Acacia Varela's - Module 1 - Responses

Using - Web - Browsers

1a. The title is "Google" and the URL is "https://www.google.com"

1b. Updates to the search engine can be made within the browser settings, under the "default browser" tab. I can also change the web page by going to the appearance tab within settings and entering a custom web address as well.

2. Within that same section "Appearances" font sizes and faces are customizable. This section includes various drop down menus that exhibit examples of text faces and there is a font size sliding scale from "tiny - huge" that one can toggle to in adjusting the font sizing These settings are valuable to all individuals and to increase accessibility to internet use

3. The default search engines associated with the browser are: Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo, Yahoo. These are accessed within the "default browser" tab in browser settings.

Searching - the - Web

4. In entering the prompt "learning to make web page" I received About 4,940,000,000 results (0.26s) The first few results were best tailored to this prompt and the further out in the results list I explore the results showcase specifications that relature to the subject but does not fully address the search. Verus the inclusion of quotation marks, it led to About 17,000 results (0.51s). That led to no viable results that were relevant just from going through the initial pages of results.

For example:

5. There were far fewer search results in the second attempt with the alternative search browsers, specifically Duck Duck Go, but noted the results offered were a bit more fined tuned into the prompt. When including the quotation marks same as above it further limited the search results, with Duck Duck Go having only 3 total. I recently made the switch on my mobile device to have Duck Duck Go as my default for privacy reasons and I enjoy it. There was a bit of adjustments in moving over to this search engine as it is not as widely used as Google, but I appreciate the enhanced privacy features it offers.

Finding Multimedia Elements

6. Using Duck Duck Go, entering the prompt "sunflowers" I'm able to navigate to the tab "images or videos" for multimedia options. Unfortunately, with this search engine it does not showcase number of results rendered. The only disclaimer shown is regarding privacy " Duck Duck Go does not track your searches or share your information with third parties."

7. This is my first time learning about Creative Commons, I was immediately impressed on their directive to build knowledge across the global and most imporantly to protect indiviuals of open sharing with providing CC linceses and public domain tools. These items can be costly in attaining as well can pose as barriers to distributions. The use of multimedia elements with CC licenses is a great way to ensure proper credit is given to creators while also allowing for free use and distribution of their work.

Reflection

8. Through this module I was able to engage in resources that taught me insight to how search results are generated and how to better tailor my searches to find what I'm looking for. I also learned about the variation of search results through different search engines and the benefits of using alternative options such as Duck Duck Go for enhanced privacy. And, importantly I learned about the importance of multimedia protection, especially when we are building our project to consider where we source our images and other media from to ensure we are respecting creators rights.
